Wetzel County Hospital CEO Named ‘2025 Young Gun’

NEW MARTINSVILLE – Tony Martinelli, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Wetzel County Hospital and Reynolds Memorial Hospital, has been named a member of the Young Guns Class of 2025 by West Virginia Executive Magazine.
“With over 15 years in healthcare, Tony’s leadership is defined by empathy, resilience, and a deep commitment to his community,” the publication said on its social media. “From navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic to prioritizing people over spreadsheets, Tony’s approach to healthcare is rooted in making a lasting impact on both patients and his team.
“A dedicated family man and community leader, Tony also serves as board president for United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley and Wheeling Health Right, supporting organizations that change lives.”
In the article, Martinelli talks about his roots and growing up in St. Clairsville. He went to Linsly for high school and graduated from Duquesne University in 2007 where he studied pharmacology and also received his MBA. He first worked at Kroger as a pharmacist and then went on to work at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital and Harrison County Hospital before being named the head of Wetzel County and Reynolds.
In the article, Martinelli said working during the COVID-19 pandemic has been the most challenging part of his professional life, to date. The pandemic also taught him the importance of having support at home from his wife, Michelle, and family.
