By Rick Loy - Staff Writer | Oct 23, 2024

Wetzel County Commission President Lisa Heasley, Commissioner Greg Morris, Ashley Snyder, Commissioner Carla McBee, and 911 Director Steve Yoho.

The Wetzel County Commission met Tuesday morning October 15, 2024, for a regular scheduled session and honored 911 Dispatcher Ashley Snyder for her heroics in helping save a five-year-old youth. E911 Director Steve Yoho presented Ashley with a LifeSaving pin and is proud of Ashley for her quick action. Ashley is the daughter of Commission President Lisa Heasley, who is a proud mother.

In other business, Patty Snider appeared before the commission asking if there was anything they could assist with in getting her late mother’s estate settled. Snider’s mother Eleanor Leu passed away in 2017 and there is an escrow account handled by Logan & Hassig that has not been divided. Phillip Bowser is over the estate but has not finished distributing the funds. The commission said there is really nothing they can do but maybe submit a letter recommending Mr Bowser try and get the estate settled up. Mrs. Snider thanked the commission for allowing her to speak and their support.

Charles Roberts of the Pine Grove Community Co-op was present to ask for funds for new activities being planned for the community youth and to help adults with drug addiction. Roberts said that Pine Grove offered the Byrd Center for different activities, but it needs a repaired leaking roof, HVAC system upgrade and other repairs to be able to provide the many activities planned. Roberts has been active with the community youth with running all the Youth Sports Programs in the community to try and keep the youth on the right path. The commission donated $20,000 to the Community Co-op program to get started by a unanimous vote. Roberts said they will also be having fundraising events to help with funding.

Wesley Morgan was present to ask for the rental of the 4-H grounds next October 2025 for a new heavy rock musical two-day event with many big artists interested in coming to perform. Funding for the event will come through ticket sales. Morgan said there will be food vendors, clothing and other items being sold, plus furnishing porta-jons, their own stages and fencing. The Commission passed the request for the rental and will finalize the details closer to the time of the festival.

Sandi Hurst representing the Pine Grove Water and Sewer System was present requesting funding for a new pump where the old one burnt up. The commission donated $16,000 Emergency Funding for a rebuilt pump.

Items to be addressed were all given approval by the commission unanimously as follows:

Approval of meeting minutes for October 1, 2024 and October 8th (Special Meeting).

The reappointment of Earl Yost to the Building Commission.

The approval for the PSD 1 to change the date and time of their monthly meetings.

The quote for Dennis Miller Doors & Windows to change the locks for the costs of $7,564.00 on all doors for the commission use.
