Magnolia Senior Powderpuff takes on the Juniors

By Chuck Clegg - Staff Writer | Oct 16, 2024

On a terrific sunshiny fall Thursday afternoon, the Magnolia Senior Girls took on their in-house rivals, “The Juniors.” On the very first play of the game the quickness and speed of the seniors was put to the test as the ball was carried from one goal to the other. With confidence high the senior girls punched it in for two additional points. The junior girls came back for six, but could not add to their points in a trick play.

The game announcer kept the coaches in line as they reminded the coaching staff of faults in defensive set ups and offensive rambling games. Neither team had a strong passing game as passes often went to empty places on the playing field. However, both teams took advantage of fumbles when the other team wanted to play pick up with a loose ball.

The two teams were coached by members of both classes. Cheerleaders were an assortment of eager students whose greatest asset was enthusiasm. Junior cheerleaders were eager to cheer their girls on to victory as advisors tried to keep them in a straight line.

By games end, the Mighty Senior Girls outscored their junior opponents 34 to 32. A fun time was had by both teams and a handful of cheering spectators in the stands.
