Wetzel County High School Math Field Day

Wetzel County High School Math Field Day was hosted by Paden City High School and held at the Valley Church in Paden City on February 9th. Over fifty students representing Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, and Valley High Schools competed. Two competitions were held: a ninth grade competition and a 10th ­ 12th grade competition. The ninth graders took an hour-long written exam, worked mental math problems, and answered 8 short-answer questions. The upper-classmen division took an hour-long written test and answered 10 short-answer questions.

Winners at the ninth grade level are: Aubrey Warder (MHS) first place, Parker Werkau (MHS) second place, Jessa Anderson (MHS) third place, and Carson Wade (MHS) fourth place. Alternates for 9th grade are: Toby Michael (HHS) and Sidney Knight (MHS).

The upper-classmen division list of winners is as follows: Shiv Patel (MHS) 1st place, Cameron Riggenbach (MHS) 2nd place, Mary Genes (MHS) 3rd place, Jacob Ryan (MHS) 4th place, Alexis Cooley (MHS) 5th place, Madeline Delaney (MHS) 6th place, Maleigha Tamborello (MHS) 7th place, Olivia Stine (MHS) 8th place, Laci Scott (MHS) 9th place, and Mackenzie McNeil (MHS) 10th place. Alternates for this division are: Reese Hale (MHS), Fernando Hernandez (MHS), Caroline Heil (MHS) and Sienna McKeever (MHS). All winners advance to regional competition at Wheeling Park High School in March.

Teachers from each of the county high schools were on hand to help with the administration and grading of the tests. Persons responsible for the success of this activity are County Office Secondary Coordinator Paul Huston and County Office Administrative Assistant Terry Greene, and the Paden City High School math department (Rebecca Massey and Eric Piekarski).
