New Martinsville Mayor Sandy Hunt Receives Appointment
Sandy Hunt, Mayor of the City of New Martinsville, WV, has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2023 Transportation and Infrastructure Services federal advocacy committee. Mayor Hunt was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on transportation. The appointment was announced by NLC President Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, Washington.
New Martinsville City Council passed a Vision Zero Policy for traffic deaths and severe injuries in September 2022. Vision Zero is a public health-based traffic safety strategy to reduce and eventually eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries using a multidisciplinary safe systems approach to increase safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. Increasing real safety for people walking and bicycling is a key step in enabling more people to choose these clean air modes of transportation.
As a member of NLCás Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee, Mayor Hunt will play a key role in shaping NLCás policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities, towns and villages before members of Congress, with the President’s administration, and at home.
“NLC’s federal advocacy committees are a key tool for gathering insights directly from the communities that our members serve,” said NLC President Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, Washington. “I am excited to have Mayor Hunt serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee and look forward to working with her to ensure every city, town and village in this nation has the resources they need to thrive.”
This year’s Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee will be led by Chair Kate Kruller, Councilmember, Tukwila, Washington; Vice Chair Vanessa Fuentes, City Councilwoman, Austin, Texas; and Vice Chair Dan Kealey, City Councilman, Burnsville, Minnesota.
