Commission Nears Lease Agreement
Abby Delaney, administrative assistant at the WVU Extension Office, met with the Wetzel County Commission on Tuesday to further discuss a long-term rental opportunity on the fairgrounds. At last week’s meeting she spoke with commissioners regarding a pipeline safety director’s request to rent a cabin on the grounds for several months. At that time commissioners took the matter under advisement.
Delaney stated on Tuesday that two people were interested in renting two cabins, however up to five individuals can reside in each facility. Under the initial lease agreement Delaney had for the commission’s approval, it was stated those renting the cabins would need to be out by May in time for the cabins to be made ready for summer camp use. Additionally, the commission requested clauses be added to stipulate those renting could not subcontract the spaces and that no hot plates or other such items be allowed out of safety precaution.
When asked why these individuals wanted to stay long-term in such facilities, Delaney speculated lodging was sparse for these out-of-town workers and that such housing was preferable over staying in RVs. The commission also discussed covering the cabin windows to ensure added insulation and efficient heating.
Delaney will draw up new agreements with those addendums and have President Don Mason sign the agreements. Pending the signing of the new agreements between the renters and the commission, the renters will be able to move into the cabins in the near future.
In another matter, the commission reappointed Larry Yoho to the Wetzel County Hospital Board. Yoho’s appointment had expired in June.
