PG Park Upgrade Agreed Upon

The shelter in Bill?Earley Park, Pine Grove, will get a new roof thanks to a donation of money and manpower from Dominion Transmission, Inc.

During the Pine Grove Town Council meeting held Monday night, Mayor Dave Barr shared the encouraging news that the Park Committee has agreed to use the funds and manpower provided by Dominion Transmission, Inc., to “box in the park”, establish a walking trail, and put new roofs on the shelter and bathrooms. Park renovations are anticipated to be completed by late September.

Regarding another anticipated project, after revisiting the specifications of the sewer system improvements project, Mayor Barr stated the project should soon go out for bid.

In another matter, it was explained the council is now responsible for tackling the town’s annual audit themselves. After discussion over the best approach to this matter, the council approved the mayor and Town Recorder Kimberly Bates to file the necessary reports with the state.

Also, as agreed on by the council and Pine Grove Volunteer Fire Department, Councilman Brian Price received and presented the fire department’s monthly reports to be filed as part of the town’s records for the yearly audit.

Under approvals, the council approved to allot $2,000 for the purchase of a new transmission needed for the town’s dump truck.

Additionally, council approved two entities to use the upstairs of the Byrd Center free of charge for upcoming events. The first is a benefit for cancer patient Lou Haught on Oct. 8 and the other is the American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary Post No. 81’s annual Cash Bash set for Oct. 29.

Lastly, the council reminds residents the town’s large garbage pick-up event lasts through today.
