Board Approves Routine Matters

The following routine matters were approved by the Wetzel County Board of Education during their meeting held Sept. 6. Matters include the use of school facilities, students’ attendance to Wetzel County Schools, out of state trips, chaperones, and other standard items.

The board also approved the requests from Joe Anderson, president of Paden City Flag Football League; and Daron Palmer, treasurer of Paden City Flag Football League, to use the Paden City High School football field for flag football games which will be played on Sundays for the 2011-2012 season.

The following 2010-2011 graduates from Wetzel County Schools were approved to ride the school bus to and from MOVTI for classes for the 2011-2012 school year: Jeffrey Billiter from Magnolia High School, Marque Schupbach from PCHS, and David Sivert and Dylan Wise from Valley High School.

The board also approved a request to participate in the State and Federal Entitlement Funds for the Education of Students with Exceptionalities for the 2011-2012 school year as follows: IDEA, Part B School Age Entitlement, FY 2012, $739,444; IDEA, Part B Preschool Entitlement, FY 2012, $32,410; and State Aid, County Grant Award, FY 2012, $84,412.

Also, an agreement between the Wetzel County Board of Education and the Northern Panhandle Head Start, Inc., for a Memorandum of Understanding, was approved, effective July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012.

The following are requests for students to attend Wetzel County Schools for the 2011-2012 school year:

Sherri Fiber’s request for her son, Joshua A. Fiber, to attend PCHS was approved, pending release from Tyler County Schools.

Deanne Henry’s request for her daughter, Breawna Henry, to continue attending Paden City Elementary School was approved, pending release from Tyler County Schools.

Jeff and Elizabeth Hiestand’s request for their children, Samantha Bell Hiestand and Tyler Michael Hiestand, to continue attending New Martinsville School was approved.

Stacy K. Hooper’s request for her daughter, Civita Hooper, to enroll and attend NMS was approved, pending release from Brooke County Schools.

Michael D. Thomas’s request for his son, Denton H. Thomas, to continue attending PCHS was approved, pending release from Tyler County Schools.

The following are requests for out of state trips for the 2011-2012 school year:

Rhonda Y. Fiest and Mark Lemasters were approved to take students from MHS to the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., to see the Broadway show Wicked between the dates of Sept. 7 and Oct. 2, depending upon ticket availability. This trip is funded through student fees.

Gregory W. Richmond, physical education teacher at NMS, was approved to attend the Midwest Alliance For Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance 2011 Leadership Development Convention in Angola, Ind., Sept. 28 through Oct. 2. This trip is funded through State and Midwest Alliances and NMS’s Professional Development fund.

Kathi Schmalz, Sandy Hinerman, Pat Jeffers, and Mark Lemasters were approved to take the Senior Class of MHS to Fright Night at Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Oct. 9. This trip is funded through class funds.

Lastly, the following individuals, listed by school, are approved by the board as chaperones and/or volunteers for the 2011-2012 school year:
