Dorothy Springer was named the Wetzel County Outstanding Senior of the Year during Senior Citizens Day at Town and Country Days, Aug. 18.

A lifelong resident of Pine Grove, Springer has received much joy through community service. As a registered nurse she offered comfort to many. Then in retirement she has served as a town council member, worked to get street lights installed, and developed Bill Earley Park. She is a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and of the Pine Grove senior citizens group.

Springer was chosen from nominations of seniors 60 years of age and older who have contributed to the community.

Senior Citizens day included a health fair, many door prizes contributed by local business, a free lunch, Bingo, balloon creations, and entertainment by The Gracemen.

This year’s event was one of the biggest ever with approximately 500 people in attendance.
