Magistrate Hears TV Theft Case
Two women faced Magistrate Judy Goontz in Wetzel County Magistrate Court earlier this month on theft-related crimes and await further proceedings in the Northern Regional Jail.
Brandy Marie Adams, 23, of 911 Riverhill Road, Washington, W.Va., was charged in Wetzel County Magistrate Court on July 21 on one count of grand larceny and another of shoplifting for allegedly shoplifting three flat screen televisions, having a value of over $1,000, from Walmart in New Martinsville. A hearing was held Aug. 5 wherein the case was continued generally on the basis that the defendant had not yet been appointed an attorney.
On or about July 20, Adams allegedly entered Walmart and placed three flat screen televisions in her shopping cart. She then reportedly left the store with said items through a fire door and loaded the televisions into her vehicle. Evidence in the case includes video surveillance of a person purported to be her loading the TVs into her cart and leaving the store with the items without paying for them. For count one, Adams could be sentenced to one to 10 years in the state penitentiary or serve one year in the regional jail with a fine of $2,500. For county two, Adams could face six months to one year in the regional jail and a fine not less than $500.
