The sixth annual Festival of Memories is now a memory itself, and it is my sincere hope that everyone who attended enjoyed the day-long street fair. Without the support of businesses and individuals and the volunteerism of many community members, such an event could never be possible. I would like to thank all those who gave so much to the community.

First of all, thank you to all the members of the planning committee: Earl and Connie Yost, Bryan Wilson, Dave Grandstaff, Butch Showalter, Carman Harman, Deanna McConaughey, Steve Pallisco, Lucille Blum, Terry Kiggans, and Joe Ward. For this one day festival, this group of volunteers began the planning process in January.

Also deserving of thanks are the organizations that supported and promoted this day of celebration. Thanks to the Wetzel County Commission, the Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce, the Tyler Star News, and the Wetzel Chronicle.

In addition, we would like to thank those who contributed financially: New Martinsville River Heritage Foundation which sponsored the wonderful fireworks display, The Green Tab for its beautiful front page ad, Bill Brown, and Tim and Erica Shiben, also Roch Herrick and Spike Riel lent their talents to Suddenlink which produced a quality promotional ad and generously aired it on cable.

The next group deserving of thanks are those who volunteered so generously with their time: Tony Ankrom and his popular World War II display, Gary Willey and the street department, Dave White and the electrical department, Wetzel Chronicle, River Heritage Quilters, Cruisers’ Unlimited, Jerry Burroughs, New Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department, New Martinsville Police Department, First Christian Church (passed out free water), Dan McConaughey, Moose Lodge, Baristas, ArtsLink, New Martinsville Parks and Recreation, Dailey Corporation, Florentine Arts Center, and Jerry Pallisco.

There were several people who also donated use of their property. Thanks to the Shiben Estates, Norris Tire, WVNCC, the City of New Martinsville, and the County Commission.

Lastly, I would like to thank all those who attended. It is your appreciation and encouragement that make it all worthwhile. We hope we will see you on the river next year on the third Saturday of July. Bring your family and friends and make some new memories.

Sincerely,

Santina Vigliotti
