Board Approves Many Personnel Matters June 20

During the June 20 Wetzel County Board of Education meeting, the board approved the following matters:

Angelica M. Arboleda was accepted to resign from her position as Spanish teacher at Magnolia High School and Paden City High School, effective immediately; Carolyn R. Hizer was accepted to resign from her position as seventh/eighth grade girls’ Track Coach at PCHS, effective immediately; and Joseph L. Villers was accepted to resign from his position as countywide Substitute School Nurse, effective at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.

Esther J. Price was accepted to retire from her position as Cook at Short Line School, effective at the end of the day on June 30.

The following changes in assignment were approved:

Tara R. Adams from half-time Social Studies Teacher at Valley High School and countywide half-time MI/LD/BD with Autism Teacher based at VHS to Social Studies Teacher at VHS; Lisa M. Ferrell from Kindergarten Teacher at Short Line School to Kindergarten Teacher at New Martinsville School; Kimberly L. Nelson from Fourth Grade Teacher at Long Drain School to Sixth Grade Teacher at Paden City Elementary School; and Meredith L. Tusic from the Reduction-In-Force/Preferred Recall List to Kindergarten Teacher at SLS, all effective the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year. And Jeffery G. Rexroad was approved for a change in assignment from Head Custodian/Painter 635-E at PCHS to Head Custodian/Painter 635-E at PCES, effective Aug. 1.

Abby J. Robinson was approved for employment as half-time English Teacher at MHS, Jessica White was approved for employment as countywide Home Economics Teacher based at MHS/PCHS/VHS, and Toby L. Willis was approved for employment as countywide MI/LD/BD with Autism Teacher based at PCHS, all effective the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year.

In other matters, the following individuals were approved for various summer program positions within the county schools:

For Long Drain School: Shannon N. Bartrug was approved for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher at LDS, effective June 21; Marla J. LaRue for a contracted services position as Policy 2512 Summer Program Teacher, effective June 20; Ryan A. May for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; David L. Pethtel for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; Abby J. Robinson for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Coordinator/Teacher, effective June 21; and Chris M. Wilson for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21.

For Short Line School: Cynthia J. Brown was approved for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; Jennifer L. Eller for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; Susan K. Flesher for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; Holly A. Groves for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; Deanna L. Heasley for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; Lindsey M. Howell for a contracted services position as Policy 2512 Summer Program Teacher at SLS, effective June 21; Cynthia S. McSweeney for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; Patricia M. Potts for contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; Cathrina J. Spencer for a contracted services position as Title I Summer School Program Coordinator/Teacher, effective June 21; Danielle M. Standiford for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; and Meredith L. Tusic for a contracted services position as Title I Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21.

For New Martinsville School: Pamela A. Chapman was approved for a contracted services position as Policy 2512 Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; Kandi M. Loy for a contracted services position as Policy 2512 Summer Program Teacher, effective June 21; Regina L. Mason for a contracted services position as Policy 2512 Summer Program Teacher, effective June 20; and Stephen E. Rogalski for a contracted services position as Policy 2512 Summer Program Teacher, effective June 20.

For Magnolia High School/Paden City High School: Valerie J. Cain was approved for a contracted services position as Summer School Tutor, effective July 5.

For Valley High School: Richard G. Duffield Jr. was approved for a contracted services position as Summer School Tutor, effective July 5.

Carol L. Tallman was approved for a contracted services position as countywide Policy 2512 Summer Program Coordinator, effective June 20.

Meanwhile, Carol S. Cecil (HHS), William S. Dakan (HHS), Wyatt L. Graham (NMS), Franklin S. Hixenbaugh (SLS), Sandra J. Hurst (SLS), Marie T. Norris (HHS), and Ricky J. Yoho (SLS) were approved for contracted services positions as Summer Program Bus Operators, effective July 5.

Diana L. Briggs (HHS); Sandra D. Geho (HHS); Sara L. Grimm (SLS); Candace O. Landers (NMS); Sharon A. Scyoc (SLS), were all approved for contracted services positions as Summer Program Cooks, effective July 5.

Lastly, Thomas L. LaRue was approved for a contracted services position as Summer Program Custodian at HHS, effective July 5.

The following individuals were approved for employment with Wetzel County Schools for the 2011-2012 school year:

Andrea M. Brewer (non-certified) for employment as Assistant Girls’ Track Coach at MHS, effective the beginning of the 2011-2012 WVSSAC Season; Steven M. Ingold (non-certified) for employment as Assistant Baseball Coach at VHS, effective the beginning of the 2011-2012 WVSSAC Season; Julie L. Ledergerber for a contracted services position as countywide Extended School Year Program-Supervisory Teacher Aide/Autism Mentor located at WCCCF, effective June 21; Gary R. Partridge (non-certified) for employment as Head Softball Coach at VHS, effective the beginning of the 2011-2012 WVSSAC Season; Jonathan C. Pollock for a contracted services position as Academic Coach at HHS, effective the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year; Meredith B. Reed for a contracted services position as Countywide Extended School Year Program–Speech and Language pathologist based at SLS, effective June 21; Richard A. Ritz for a contracted services position as Countywide Handyman, effective July 5; and Rex A. Rush for a contracted services position as Athletic Director at HHS, effective the beginning of the 2011-2012 WVSSAC Season.

In another matter, the board approved to award the bid for Depository Bank for Wetzel County Schools for the period of two years: July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2013, to Union Bank.

In other matters, Bernard and Georgia Bland’s request was granted for their daughter, Jessica L. Bland, to be released from Wetzel County Schools to continue attending Tyler County Schools for the 2011-2012 school year. The board further granted similar requests to: Matthew and Carla Hudson for their children, Matthew Levi Hudson and Colt Vaughn Hudson, to be released from PCHS/PCES to continue attending Tyler County Schools for the 2011-2012 school year; Lori I. Ice for her son, Charles Christian Ice, to be released from VHS to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2011-2012 school year; Denise Kehrer for her daughter, Chelsea Kehrer, to be released from MHS to continue attending Tyler County Schools for the 2011-2012 school year; and Jae C. Lehew for her children, Asia and Quintin Richmond, to be released from Wetzel County Schools to continue attending Tyler County Schools for the 2011-2012 school year.

Similarly, the board approved a request from Tim and Carolyn Hizer for their daughter, Haley Hizer, to continue attending MHS for the 2011-2012 school year, pending release from Tyler County Schools. Also, the board approved Sherry D. Klug’s request for her daughters, Bailey Lee Leasure and Erica Mae Leasure, to continue attending NMS for the 2011-2012 school year; and Mark and Alice Slater’s request for their son, Shawn R. Slater, to continue attending HHS for the 2011-2012 school year, pending release from Marion County Schools.

Regarding bus transportation and trip requests, the board approved a request from Beverly Gibb, director, New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Commission, for a bus and bus operator to transport children and counselors from the Lewis Wetzel Park to the Brooklyn Area Train Station and back to the Lewis Wetzel Park on June 15. This trip was funded through the New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Commission. The board also approved the request from Cindy Long, Silver Bebee’s 4-H Club leader, for a bus and bus operator to transport the Silver Bebee’s 4-H Club (80 members) to Kennywood Park near Pittsburgh, Pa., on June 24. This trip was funded through the Silver Bebee’s 4-H Club. Lastly, the board approved Jeanine Watson’s request to take LDS/HHS band students to Kennywood Amusement Park in Pittsburgh on June 6. This trip was funded through the band boosters organization.

Lastly, the board accepted the superintendent’s recommendation to approve the agreement between West Liberty University and Wetzel County Schools for setting forth responsibilities of the Institution of Higher Education for College Pre-service and Student Teachers.
