The Best Reality Show

By Staff | Dec 1, 2010

I’ve always enjoyed watching sports, but it seems my desire has increased dramatically in the past few months — in no small part thanks to the success of the Magnolia Blue Eagles.

The boys in the blue and gold are simply amazing. Each week I am in awe at their abilities and teamwork. They are the total package and I cannot wait for Friday night to watch them play in the big game.

My husband, not as big of a sports fan as me, doesn’t attend the MHS sporting events. The last few weeks he has stayed home with our daughter, keeping her from the frigid conditions. He listens on the radio and last Friday he called me exactly at half time and simply said, “Can no one play against this team?!” “No!” was my excited reply.

I’ve got Big Blue fever and I know many other people do too. For those who just don’t get it or whose allegiance to their particular school is too strong to allow some excitement for another local team, I just have to say, “You are missing out on the best entertainment available.”

This reality on the playing field is much better than any reality show Hollywood can conjure. It has drama, comedy, highs, lows, and everything in between.

I think that’s why I’ve always enjoyed watching sports. It has such intensity and anticipation. You truly don’t know what is going to happen. There is no predictable script. There isn’t a laugh track to tell you when it is supposed to be amusing. The sound effects come directly from the players, the coaches, the referees, the cheerleaders, the band, and the spectators. It doesn’t get any more real than that.

I have every intention of being on Wheeling Island Friday night to root my Blue Eagles on to a state victory. If you want to feel the excitement, I’d suggest you get bundled up and join the Big Blue faithful in the stands. I know it will be the best entertainment around that day and I know that this quality team will make us all proud, they already have.
