From Mr. and Mrs. James R. Shepard
After reading George Antonik’s letter to the Chronicle, we agree wholeheartedly.
Our son took his children to Lewis Wetzel pool this summer and found ducks swimming with the children. He spoke with the lifeguard concerning the health hazard and was informed that it happened frequently. He notified Health and Human Services and went back at a later date and the ducks were still there and the pool open.
He took the children to Hannibal Pool across the bridge. Their facility is not an extravagant layout, but a structure that is adequate for a community who enjoys swimming. It is very clean and safe. Many swimmers were there from New Martinsville.
If Wetzel County were to spend money eradicating the horde of ducks infesting Lewis Wetzel Park, being what they are, they would undoubtedly return to that area.
New Martinsville is a family-oriented community and deserves a clean, safe pool. We have nothing here for teenagers who really need some type of recreational facility.
