I have heard a lot of discussion this year about how early is too early to put up Christmas decorations. It seems like there are essentially two lines of thought.
The first says, “Whenever you want to or whenever you have time!” These are the people who welcome a little extra tinsel or mistletoe. The second says, “Not until after Thanksgiving! No exceptions!! Why does everyone want to skip Thanksgiving?”
Oh, and I forgot about the somewhat two-faced third camp that says the decorating is okay as long as you don’t let the world know by actually turning on your Christmas lights.
Personally, I belong to the first line of thinking. While I haven’t actually done any Christmas decorating, I wish I had. In my opinion the official Christmas season of Thanksgiving to Christmas or New Year’s Day just isn’t long enough. It is a very special time of the year and an extremely swift month doesn’t satisfy this girl’s holiday longing.
You see, to me the extra time has nothing to do with the commercialization of Christmas or the skipping of Thanksgiving. It is all about enjoying the season (which in my mind is largely about spending time with family, including around the Thanksgiving table). So if you want my opinion, I say go for it! Bring it on. . . haul out the holly!
