By Staff | Nov 10, 2010

At the Pine Grove Town Council meeting Monday night it was learned Governor Joe Manchin awarded the town a $1.235 million West Virginia Department of Commerce Small Cities Block Grant. It will be used toward the cost of the sewer system improvements project that will replace the existing wastewater treatment plant that is an ineffective vacuum system.

The grant was part of more than $17.7 million in Small Cities Block Grants to 31 critical infrastructure projects throughout the state. Over $50 million in other federal, state, and local funds will be leveraged to complete these projects.

These projects will serve approximately 41,854 citizens, of which more than 25,080 will be low- and moderate-income persons. Over 9,000 households in these communities will receive improved or new service as a result of these investments.

In other matters, the council approved the use of up to $200 from the general fund for food and supplies for the employee Christmas dinner. The council has not yet set a date for the dinner.
