NM Electric Earns Awards
The City of New Martinsville was honored for its achievements during the past year at the 2010 OPPEI/AMP/OMEA Annual Conference.
New Martinsville Municipal Electric received an honorable mention in the AMP Public Power Promotion Award category for its 2009 public power awareness campaign. The utility celebrated Public Power Week, a nationally recognized celebration, with an information booth, promotional items, and activities at the city building.
New Martinsville Electric Department General Manager David White thanked Assistant General Manager Dawn Myers for her tireless work on Public Power Week.
The utility’s commitment to safety was also recognized with an AMP Safety Award in recognition of having no time loss due to reportable accidents in the transmission/distribution system during the previous year.
This is the ninth consecutive year the local department has earned that recognition.
New Martinsville was also commended for providing mutual aid to the City of St. Clairsville, Ohio, in the aftermath of a severe storm Aug. 5. All of the utilities that responded in the mutual aid call for St. Clairsville during the storms were commended by Mayor Robert Vincenzo at the convention.
“You always wonder when you’re in need if somebody is going to come out and help you,” said White, noting it was nice to see so many utilities came to the Ohio town’s aid.
Recorder Bonnie Shannon said Vincenzo couldn’t say enough good about the New Martinsville workers.
The annual conference was held in Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 25-28 and was attended by nearly 460 municipal officials and industry representatives, with speakers from various national organizations.
