WCSD Program Will Give Car Seats Away

By Staff | Oct 27, 2010

The Wetzel County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting a free car seat giveaway Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the First Church of God, 255 Russell Ave., New Martinsville, (near Walmart).

Melissa Pajak of the West Virginia Governor’s Highway Safety Program will be working in conjunction with the department to distribute the seats that meat a child’s requirements and ensure they are installed correctly. An installation check can also be conducted for an existing child seat, even if a free seat is not desired.

There is no fee or income requirement to receive a car seat. “The only requirement is that you will be carrying a child in your vehicle,” explained Sheriff James Hoskins. This means it is not only open to parents, but grandparents and others who may transport children.

All types of children’s seats will be available, from rear-facing infant seats to boosters.

The event is sponsored by the WCSD in partnership with West Virginia Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
