Where in the world is the public outrage? Why are there no local, state, or national politicians screaming at the top of their lungs? Around election time, all that we hear from our elected officials is talk of jobs, local jobs that put local people to work. Currently in Ohio, Marshall, and Wetzel counties, there is enough work going on to have the entire workforce in the Ohio Valley at full employment.

I know a few folks who are working on the Marcellus Shale drilling, but for the most part the license plates all read Oklahoma, Texas, Kentucky, or Virginia. If you are at the Dallas Pike truck stop in the morning you will see workers loading into vans to go to work, but you will not hear them speak English. If you take a ride out any of the several ridges around Cameron, you will see Mexicans living in tent cities while they work on the rigs.

Even if you were to look around the sites in Wetzel County, you will find not only out of town workers, but you will see workers who are not even from America, but from Mexico. We have skilled pipe liners, laborers, pipefitters, welders, carpenters, electricians, and ironworkers right here in our back yard.

These are the same local people who you go to church with, who coach your children’s ball teams, who volunteer at your local fire departments and E-squads. These are the same people who support your local stores and gas stations, who pay property taxes and who help build the buildings and schools that are in your communities.

Where is the outrage? Who will help end the madness of corporate greed and imported workers? Will you?

It is time to wake up and stand up!
