Kirkland Injured In ATV Accident

Joshua Joseph Kirkland, 24, of Proctor, remains in Akron City Hospital following an ATV accident on the afternoon of July 23 on Highmill Avenue in Jackson Township, near Massillon, Ohio. Kirkland was severely injured after his ATV overturned following a jump on Friday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. Kirkland is a National Champion quad racer.

Kirkland was transported by Metro Life Flight to Akron City Hospital. His condition remains unknown, however relatives say he’s been through at least one surgery so far and is planned to undergo at least two more before the week is out. No foul play is suspected as the cause and he is reported to have worn his helmet and other protective gear at the time of the accident. Reports from the Jackson Township Police Department indicate Kirkland was riding his ATV four-wheeler approximately one mile east of 8222 Highmill Street when the ATV overturned following a jump on a dirt hill.

Accoing to the police report witnesses to the accident include Zachary Joseph Kirkland, 20, of Proctor; Clayton A. Kirkland, 18, of New Martinsville; and Tricia J. Locke, 22, of New Martinsville.
