Cunning Headlines Another Wileyville Homecoming Event

By Staff | Jul 7, 2010

Brandon Cunning will lead The Stunning Cunning Band in two shows at the Wileyville Homecoming Saturday.

Even those without a connection to Wileyville will be coming “home” Saturday as the annual Wileyville Homecoming will offer up great entertainment and food.

At the parade this year they are pleased to be having the 249th Army Band of the West Virginia National Guard. There will be approximately 40 people coming with this band and they will also be helping the town honor the veterans at the opening ceremony which is held immediately after the parade.

For the young there will be games including a duck pond and a basketball shooting contest. For those young at heart there will be many crafters and flea marketers to visit. Trophies will be awarded to the Cinch tournament and horseshoe tournament winners.

This year’s entertainment schedule is packed full of fan favorites including Crossroads, Price Family, Audio Projectile, Hundred Miles from Nowhere, One-A-Chord, Jessica Schoonover and Rocky River Band, and Tharp Brothers. Sponsored by Chesapeake Energy, Brandon Cunning and the Stunning Cunning Band will be making the journey from Memphis, Tenn., to perform two evening shows.

Since the summer of 1993, Brandon Cunning has yet to be derailed from his mission of bringing rockabilly to a new generation. With his guitar playing, vocals, and stunning showmanship, it’s not hard to see and hear his influences of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Brian Setzer. Late in 2006, faced with a regional lack of interest in his 50s rock and roll music, Cunning relocated from his hometown of Washington, Pa., to Memphis, Tenn.-the birthplace of rock and roll. He soon put together The Stunning Cunning Band, a four-piece rockabilly band that has the groove that’ll make you move! Playing tribute to the original rock and roll legends, The Stunning Cunning Band set its collective sight on one thing-delivering incredible back-to-back hit songs in their natural state with a high energy show.

The band is fronted by the charismatic Brandon Cunning on guitar along with the driving rhythm section of Steve Clark (stand up bass) and Rick McFarland (drums). The Stunning Cunning Band pushes the limits of excitability to borderline good-time hysteria.

As always there will be many great foods to enjoy including hot sausage sandwiches; roasted pork, beef, and chicken; taco in a bag; and much more.

Mark your calendars for the Wileyville Homecoming on July 10. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. with line-up at 9:30 a.m. Entertainment begins after opening ceremonies. For more information or to reserve a craft space call Linda at 304-386-4532.
