Overheight Load Hits Overpass

By Staff | Jun 16, 2010

The backhoe being hauled on an Ultra Pipeline semi-truck out of Oakwood, Va., ended up skidding on state Route 2 Friday after the machinery didn’t clear the Richard “Dick” Snyder Memorial Bridge overpass at the four-lanes in New Martinsville.

New Martinsville Police Department Captain Mike Thomas said at approximately 2 p.m. the impact sent the backhoe off of the trailer. Driver Terry Ray Looney of Grundy, Va., was cited for having his load overheight.

Remarkably no additional accidents or injuries were caused. A bridge inspection crew from Moundsville arrived on the scene and reported no structural damage to the bridge. (Photo by Miranda Stokes)
