By Staff | Jun 9, 2010

Wetzel County Office of Emergency Management Director Ed Sapp met with the Wetzel County Commission Tuesday to discuss final preparations for the open house of the new 911 center set for June 26 at 1 p.m. The Wetzel County E-911 will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. and the open house will last until 5 p.m. Tours of the center and refreshments will be provided. The new center is located on Benjamin Drive near Wetzel County Hospital. For more information call 304-455-6960.

Lastly, Steve Rawlings of the West Virginia Counties Risk Pool insurance program met with the commission to further discuss and answer questions regarding the proposal he presented the commission in March. At March’s meeting Rawlings took information from the commission’s current insurance provider and presented a comparative summary of the anticipated savings the county would incur if the commission decided to gain membership in the WV Counties Risk Pool.

At Tuesday’s meeting the commission addressed questions to Rawlings, and while there are many advantages to joining the WV Counties Risk Pool-a member-owned and controlled program-the commission is not yet prepared to decide whether or not to join the pool. The deadline to file for membership for this fiscal year is July 1. The state-wide program insures coverage of county-owned properties, vehicles, and equipment and promises efficient and stellar service as well as stable rates.
