Six Graduates Top MHS Class

Valedictorian Jared Blatt

Magnolia High School will hold its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2010 June 3 at 8 p.m. on the football field (weather permitting) or in the high school gymnasium.

This year’s class includes four valedictorians: Jared Blatt, Joseph Feeney, Landon Herrick, and Rebecca Patterson. Patterson is also the class president. There are two salutatorians this year: Andrea Lockhart and Noah Taylor.

Jared Blatt is the son of Jim and Claire Blatt. He has participated in football and basketball all four years of his high school career. He is in National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta math honorary, and Spanish Honor Society.

He is a member of TSA, torchbearers, service club, student government, Young Life, and St. Vincent de Paul parish. His plans for the future are to attend West Virginia University and major in biomedical engineering in order to pursue med school.

Joe Feeney is the son of Sherry and Chris Bachman and Jim Feeney. He has participated in cross country and has been a member of the band for all four years of his high school career. He has run track for three years, played basketball for two years, and baseball for one year.

He is a member of the Technology Student Association, torch bearers, student government, Spanish National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Service Club. He is also an active member of New Martinsville United Methodist Church. His future plans are to attend West Virginia University and major in biomedical engineering.

Landon Herrick is the son of Tommy and Debbie Herrick. He participated in baseball, basketball, football, and golf. He is a member of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Young Life, Spanish National Honor Society, Torchbearers, and Debate Team. He is also the Secretary of Science National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. He is an active member of New Martinsville United Methodist Church.

His plans for the future are to attend West Virginia University and major in Pre-Pharmacy.

Rebecca Patterson is the daughter of Robert and Jackie Patterson. She participated in cheerleading all four years of high school. She is a member of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Young Ladies Union, Young Life, Spanish National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and Service Club. She is also the Senior Class President. Rebecca is an active member of New Martinsville United Methodist Church. She raised funds for the Students Helping Students Scholarship.

Her plans for the future are to attend West Virginia University and major in secondary education.

Valedictorian Joseph Feeney

Andrea Lockhart is the daughter of Brian and Melissa Lockhart. She is the Co-President of National Honor Society, the Treasurer of Science National Honor Society, a member of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honorary, and a member of Percussion Ensemble. She has also participated in the Technology Student Association, Young Life, and Service Club. She has been a band member for four years and served as field commander her senior year. She participated in cross country for two years and softball for four years. Her future plans are to attend Mountain State University where she will pursue a Master of Science in Physician Assistant degree.

Noah Taylor is the son of Mark and Kelly Taylor. He is the Co-President of the National Honor Society, Sergeant-at-arms of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honorary, and a member of the Science National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, and Torchbearers. He participated in golf all four years at Magnolia and basketball for two years. Noah is an active member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church. His future plans are to attend West Liberty University to major in pre-engineering.
