A Fitting Tribute

By Staff | May 26, 2010

We celebrated with the town of Pine Grove and the rest of the county Saturday as the Main?Street Bridge was named the Freda Bell Bridge in honor of one of the town’s most active residents.

In just a few weeks Freda Bell will turn 92, but her age certainly doesn’t stop her from continuing to contribute to the community she has loved all her life.

When Del. Dave Pethtel read the concurrent resolution that listed her many activities, those in attendance were chuckling at Bell’s smiles, face coverings, and other reactions. Those people know Bell and her wit and acerbic ways, but they also know the love and dedication she has for her community.

She has served on countless boards and committees, undoubtedly putting in long, thankless hours. She has worked to support her neighbors and span the generations. It only seems fitting that a bridge, a structure that will do the same thing for her community and its visitors, be named after Freda Bell.

Congratulations.
