Public Doesn’t Attend Hearing At Pine Grove

By Staff | May 11, 2010

Pine Grove Town Council held a public hearing at the Byrd Center on May 10 regarding the loan on the town’s water plant. Although no persons outside of the council attended, Mayor Dave Barr re-read the ordinance and after some discussion the council moved to table the matter for another time.

Continuing with the water plant, the council received bids for the roofing project on the plant and agreed to hire Quality Aluminum of Paden City for the project.

The council also discussed getting an estimate for repair or remodeling of the windows, doors, and furnace of the Byrd Center. Bel-O-Mar Regional Council is writing a grant for the council in hopes of making the building more energy efficient.

The council approved many requests to use the Byrd Center free of charge with the stipulation that those parties clean the center following their event: The Short Line Elementary eighth grade students will hold a dance at the Byrd Center on May 22; the Short Line Christian Crusaders will hold a yard sale for Relay for Life at the Byrd Center on June 5; and the WesBanco Relay for Life team will host Bingo at the center on June 6.

Two purchase requests were also approved at Monday night’s meeting. The council approved the use of $300 to purchase culvert pipe to help repair about two feet of the road that is crumbling by the football field. They also approved $500 for the purchase of about a dozen more street signs. Several of the new signs have already been placed around town and are receiving favorable praise by the community.

Lastly, it was noted the council purchased a new self-propelled lawn mower for the city for $150.
