As the temperatures continue to rise and days get longer, crews in the City of Paden City will be hard at work to get the streets, pool, and park ready for residents to enjoy.

At the monthly meeting of the Paden City Council held on Monday evening, Mayor Bill Fox discussed the ongoing surface water problem occurring in locations in the city. The first project will be completed on Sixth Avenue, with S&S Engineering scheduled to assess the project on Friday.

The second problem to be addressed is on Ninth Avenue and will start as soon as the first is complete.

Councilman Richard Wright informed the meeting that horseshoe pits have been installed in the Paden City Park. As for the city’s pool, Wright reported the issues with the drains have been taken care of and work is ongoing.

The council also discussed an application for a $25,000 grant to benefit the police department. The COPS grant, Community Oriented Policing Services, is a program created by the federal stimulus bill.

The PCPD will use the money to upgrade their radio equipment.

Police Chief Michael Billiter released the PCPD’s monthly report for March. According to the report, the department assisted other departments seven times; the department was called to assist other agencies twice; the department executed one search warrant; the department investigated two traffic accidents; and 13 traffic citations were issued.

Total, the department patrolled 3,452 miles in March.

With crimes on the rise in certain areas, Billiter and Fox want the citizens of Paden City to know that officers are available at all times. Should someone have a need to contact the PCPD during times when dispatchers are not available, Fox asks them to call 304-771-3140.

In other news, Paden City Little League’s “tag day” has been set for April 10, with the rain date set for April 17. The players and chaperones will be collecting funds to benefit the league. The Little League opening day parade is slated for April 24.

Before the meeting adjourned, Fox commended the citizens, students, and supporters of Paden City High School who attended the recent public hearing for their courtesy and respect.

The Paden City Council meets at 7 p.m. each month on the first Monday in the council chambers located inside the city building.
