Authorities Investigate Abuse

By Staff | Mar 31, 2010

An investigation is continuing into the abuse of a four-week-old child in New Martinsville.

New Martinsville Police Department Detective Donnie Harris is looking into the incident in which the child suffered “severe skull fractures”, according to Wetzel County Prosecutor Timothy Haught.

“As soon as we complete that investigation, I anticipate that criminal charges will be filed,” said Haught.

The name of the child was released to other media sources by a family member, but Haught declined to make any comments until there are charges, which would then be a matter of public record.

“My chief concern is that these family members are releasing inaccurate information and once the investigation is completed, the appropriate charge will be brought,” said Haught. Likewise, authorities cannot release the names of any potential suspects.

The incident has been referred to Child Protective Services and the child is in the custody of the state.
