Resonance Will Give Free Concert

Resonance

“Resonance”, a group that performs percussion jazz, will liven the auditorium at Tyler Consolidated High School at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, March 28. This free concert, the final in the ArtsLink 2009-20 Concert Series, is sponsored locally by the Stealey Community Fund.

Resonance is a world fusion ensemble made up of five musicians-three percussionists, guitar, and bass.They use the distinctive sounds of the steel drums to draw audiences into a mix of Caribbean jazz and global fusion music.They offer listeners an array of musical styling ranging from traditional Caribbean and original fusion music to moments of African and Caribbean drumming. The group focuses on a variety of music in an effort to take their audience on a musical trip around the world.

Members of this ensemble have performed and studied on five continents and with such prestigious groups as the Pittsburgh Symphony, Umoja African Arts Ensemble, and the River City Brass Band. They have performed at Musickfest in Bethlehem, Pa.; the Mid Ohio Valley Multi Cultural Festival in Parkersburg, W.Va.; and at area colleges and universities including Pitt, WVU, Slippery Rock, and Clarion.

The group prides itself on its “Caribbean Traditions” an assembly program that traces steel drum music from its African roots to the present.It is presented to thousands of students a year and will be shared with TCHS students on March 29.
