A two-vehicle accident occurred last week on March 4 around 8 a.m. The accident involving a dump truck and a car occurred on state Route 2 near the New Martinsville Plaza and Northview Cemetery. The New Martinsville Police Department responded with Chief Tim Cecil on the scene as well as Patrolman Bruce Smith who is investigating the accident.

The dump truck traveling south on state Route 2 in New Martinsville had its blinker on as it prepared to make a right-hand turn into the gravel lane near the cemetery. As the truck veered left to make the turn, a vehicle following behind collided with the dump truck. The driver of the car was taken to Wetzel County Hospital.

In addition, nearly 10 grave markers were destroyed in the accident. They were included in the accident report and will be replaced by the insurance company. (Photo by Brian Rogers)
