It might be just about the smallest bit of news in this week’s Wetzel Chronicle, but the report of tires being slashed along the length of the riverfront in downtown New Martinsville is rather disturbing.

That kind of senseless destruction is just infuriating. There was seemingly no motive, nothing to gain. The perpetrator simply wanted to cause harm.

Then the thought that it happened on a fairly visible street during early evening hours makes it more horrifying. The audacity is incredible.

While other members of our community are busy making up packages for those less fortunate or preparing gifts for their loved ones, someone who evidently had nothing better to do decided to cause problems for innocent bystanders. That is simply unacceptable and we hope the New Martinsville Police Department can work to find the guilty person or people.
