Powhatan Plans Holiday Kick-Off Event Saturday

The Village of Powhatan Point will kick off the holiday season once again with a celebration for the whole family on Nov. 14 beginning at 8 a.m. The event includes food, live entertainment, a holiday parade, and of course Santa himself. In fact, Old Saint Nick will kick things off with a pancake breakfast at the Masonic Hall sponsored by the Powhatan Captina OES.
Local businesses, churches, and organizations will be providing a health fair, soup sales, bake sales, specials, door prizes, refreshments, and a whole lot more. There will be lots of good food and talented crafters throughout the village.
The Powhatan VFD and EMS parade starts at 6:30 p.m. This year’s grand marshalls are the Village’s oldest American veterans. Trophies will be awarded following the parade at the elementary school. The American Legion will be winding up the day with a Snowball Dance and Riverside Restaurant with karaoke.
Programs, maps, and food menus will be provided at participating businesses and key locations throughout the village that day. The CITV Committee welcomes everyone and encourages all to join in on the fun.
Christmas in the Village entertainment’s “Fun for the Kids” program includes: 8-10:30 a.m. pancake breakfast with Santa; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. face painting and balloons at the Church of the Nazarene; 12:30 p.m. magician Dave Lehman at the elementary school sponsored by the Powhatan Public Library; 2-4 p.m. face painting and balloons at the Parish Hall by Sunflower and Bubbles the Clowns; 2-4 p.m. pictures with Santa at the Parish Hall; 4-4:45 p.m. Jr. Hi Chorus and band concert at the elementary school.
Live music entertainment’s “For the Young at Heart” program includes: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Manchester Hazard at the Parish Hall. The following entertainment will be held across from Frosty Treat located on Route 7 North: 11 a.m. to noon, Chrisagis Brothers; 12:30-2 p.m., Streamline Band featuring Erin Huffman; 2:30-3:30 p.m., Katie Orlofske; and 4-5:30 p.m., Fade to Blue.
The guaranteed $500 raffle drawing will be held at 4 p.m. in the live music area.
The line-up for the parade is at 5:30 p.m. at Fras’s Auto on Main Street.
A house decorating contest will be held on Nov. 12 with prizes of $25 going to the top five winners.
