Purple Haze

By Staff | Oct 28, 2009

The last few days until Halloween are here and with them are Halloween mania. The decorations are proliferating, the stores are full of people buying costumes, accessories, and candy. Much to some people’s chagrin it has become one of the biggest holidays of the year.

While I am not a fan of scary movies, books, etc., I do have a fondness for Halloween. I like the bright colors and the fun costumes. The pumpkin carving is just good old-fashioned fun and the creative foods shown in magazines and on television are just too unique. I sort of get into the whole vibe of it.

A few weeks ago Joellen wanted to decorate the outside of our house for the holiday. I got out my box of tricks and found some purple lights. When I suggested she and Daniel could put them up while I was gone one evening, Daniel gave me the silent, evil eye that one parent gives to the other. I dropped the subject. A few days later I asked him if that look was because he didn’t want to do it or he didn’t want purple lights on the house. He said it was for the latter.

While shopping locally one day I saw the cutest ghost lights and purchased a set to put up with my daughter. We got to work one afternoon before Daniel came home. She said she wanted the purple lights too. Surely her daddy wouldn’t complain about them to his three-year-old angel.

Daniel came home and said, “Joellen, your lights are beautiful. I especially like the purple ones.” Can we say wrapped around his her finger?
