I would like to submit this letter to the editor in thanks to all those who came forward to help with making the first annual Magnolia “Mudhole” Cross Country Invitational a great success. This was the first home meet in many years and we want to make it a yearly event for the Blue Eagle teams.

In addition to all of our parents who contributed time getting the course ready, timing, umpiring, and scoring the meet, I want to specifically thank the following New Martinsville School and Magnolia High School faculty for their help: Mr. Craig Schneid, Mr. Aaron Vigilotti, Mr. Brian Ensinger, Mr. Greg Richmond, Mrs. Sonya Holliday (who designed our award certificates), Mr. Mark Lemasters, and Ms. Pat Jeffers. Also, Chief of Police Tim Cecil was helpful in getting us the use of the field. Thanks to the city workers who cleaned up the area in the woods by the marina (it looks great) and closed down the road for us. And, of course, Beverly Gibb, city parks director, who was instrumental in getting things together for us. What a great asset she is to the city of New Martinsville.

Last, and not least, Mr. Tim Shiben, who allowed us to use the old golf course to practice on and to hold the meet. In this day and age when it is easy to say “No!” to a request for help, he was not only helpful but excited to have us use his property. We run on some impressive courses through our season but “ours” is as good, or better, than any we see around the state.

My apologies if I have missed a name. All that helped have the appreciation of the Magnolia High School boys and girls cross country teams. Again, thanks to all that contributed.
