Genealogical Society Closes Chapter
The Wetzel County Genealogical Society closed as of the last day of June. The organization voted to donate their funds on hand to the local library. The Wetzel County census, marriage, obituary, and other record type books sold by the society were also donated and may be purchased from the library.
The Wetzel County Genealogical Society was formed in 1979 and has proved successful over the years: publishing a quarterly newsletter to their members; purchasing genealogical and history books that were housed in the New Martinsville Public Library; published and offered for sale many source record books on Wetzel County and surrounding counties, including the 1983 History of Wetzel County, WV; and supported the cloth binding of soft cover books for the genealogical section of the library.
The society wishes to thank the library and all who have supported their organization and what it stood for, “Preserving the history and genealogy of the area”. The vast genealogical collection will remain in the New Martinsville Public Library and is open to the public during the library’s scheduled hours.
