Price Named Outstanding Senior Citizen

Thursday was Senior Day at the annual Town and Country Days held at the Wetzel County 4-H grounds.

This year Vivian Price was named the Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year. The annual award is given to a person who has made a significant difference to the community.

Price is a 1948 graduate of Reader High School. She was named valedictorian of her class and went on to receive a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career at McKimmie Ridge School in 1951. She also taught at Burchfield, Paden City, Pine Grove, Reader, and Short Line School, dedicating 38 years of her life to her teaching career.

After retiring in 1989 she was a substitute teacher for 10 more years.

She is a member of the Pine Grove Garden Club, where she was named Gardener of the Year in 2002 and 2008. She serves as president and program chairperson of the Pine Grove Senior Citizens Club, charter member of the Wetzel County Schools Quarter-Century Club, past president of the Wetzel County Association of Retired School Employees, and has served as the financial secretary of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Reader.
