Anyone who missed last weekend’s Children’s Theater production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the Lincoln Theater should regret it. This production was outstanding in every way, from the sets, through the costumes, through the direction and through the very talented actors.

I suspect that many went expecting a dumbed-down version of the Shakespearean classic comedy written in a modern style. I certainly was. This was not the case. Not only did these young actors recite the lines as Shakespeare wrote them, they understood what they were saying and conveyed this to the delighted audience. My hat is off to Bart Cannizzaro and his able staff for inspiring these young people to give their very best to their performance. Not a line was flubbed, as far as we could tell.

We all came away with an appreciation for our local arts and artists. These children had a valuable learning experience that they won’t likely forget. I am so proud of all of the people in the Wayward Players and ArtsLink who worked so hard to produce this gem.

These are tough times for everyone and the arts are no exception. I hope some in the audience came away inspired to get involved. I hope that some of you will consider playing a more active role in these organizations.

The board of directors is always looking for new members. And finally, I hope that everyone will support the arts with a contribution to ArtsLink, 141 Main St., New Martinsville.

Sincerely,

Patricia Block
