From Donald W. Owens Jr.

I recently reading the online edition of the Wetzel Chronicle and came across the community message board and found where the WV State Police are being slammed for doing their job. It talks about how many people are getting pulled over for petty things such as tail lights out, improper display of registration, etc., etc., etc.

I would like to take this opportunity to commend all the law enforcement officers in Wetzel County. It doesn’t matter where I am or when I am out on the road I always see at least one cruiser somewhere in the area.

Do you realize that a burnt out taillight may lead to a DUI arrest or even better a drug bust? Rumor has it that our school system has more drug abuse in it than any other county in the sate, and that’s pretty sad.

So instead of slamming the cop for doing his job, I think it’s about time to stop and say thank you for keeping us safe. And with 9/11 quickly approaching it would be a wonderful time to pay tribute to all our local heroes, not only law enforcement, but Firefighters, EMT’s, Paramedics, and probably the most important the Dispatchers who serve as the lifeline to keep track of everyone and make sure everyone goes home safely.

Respectfully,

Donald W. Owens Jr.
