Homecoming To Be Held
The 63rd Annual Jacksonburg Homecoming will be held on Saturday at the Jacksonburg Park. The day will kick off with a parade at 11 a.m. This year’s parade marshals are Gene and Shirley Derby. The parade will also feature an appearance by the Valley High School Marching Band.
Area fire departments are asked to bring their best engines out as awards will be given for oldest engine in service, newest engine in service, and the chief’s choice. Opening ceremonies will begin at approximately 11:45 a.m. as the VHS Band presents the Star Spangled Banner followed by the presentation of awards by the Jacksonburg Volunteer Fire Department.
Food will begin to be served at noon and will include everything from hot dogs and corn dogs to cotton candy, funnel cakes, and pie. The Short Line Lions Club will have games for people old and young alike. The Busy Bees 4-H Club will have a dime pitch and the VHS Volleyball Team will have a dunking booth. The water slide will also return for the kids this year, so be sure to bring your suits. Bingo, presented by the JVFD, will run from 2-10 p.m. There will also be a horseshoe tournament beginning at 6 p.m.
A full slate of entertainment is scheduled throughout the day, so be sure to bring your favorite lawn chair or blanket to claim your spot on the lawn. Gym The Doorman’s karaoke will be from noon to 2 p.m.; followed by the Rockin’ Country Band, 3-4:30 p.m.; 100 Miles From Nowhere takes the stage from 4:30-6 p.m; the Rockin Country Band will play a second time from 6-7:30 p.m.; and the night will finish off with Up The Creek bluegrass band from 8-10 p.m. Parade line up will begin at 10 a.m. at Ron Anderson’s old store. Children and adults who wish to ride their bicycles, ATVs, etc. in the parade are welcome to do so.
