I am constantly amazed at how much the Ohio River divides the residents of Monroe and Wetzel counties. We live so close together, yet often are worlds apart.

I have a few close friends who live on the riverfront in Ohio, but other than those few, I don’t know that many of our local Buckeyes. We really do tend to stay within our borders when it comes to activities and community events.

Well, I hope to bridge that gap Friday night by visiting the Monroe County Relay for Life. I know one short visit won’t make me part of the Ohio community, but at least it’s a step in the right direction. When I have attended events on the Ohio riverfront before I have been amazed at how few Mountaineers are there.

Will you join me in branching out to our neighbors? Of course this weekend’s event is for a good cause and the list of activities and entertainment sound like a lot of fun. Hope to see you there!
