Maine Waives Speedy Trial
Present in Judge David W. Hummel Jr. courtroom on June 25 was
Robert A. Maine Jr., 30, of 14 Rose St., New Martinsville.
Maine is currently being held at the Northern Regional Jail for allegedly fatally shooting his cousin, Gregory G. Maine Jr., on March 7 with a high powered rifle in New Martinsville.
Robert Maine has been charged with first degree murder. Attorney Kevin Neiswonger was present telling the courtroom that the psychological evaluations dates have not been set yet. Neiswonger told the courtroom that Maine’s other attorney, David White, was absent due to medical reasons and he wanted to have this case scheduled for later.
Prosecutor Tim Haught told the courtroom that due to White’s injuries from a previous car accident and given the complexity of the case, he asked for Maine to waive his right to the next court term which will start in September.
Maine was sworn in by Circuit Clerk Sharon Dulaney. Hummel told Maine the court was aware one of his attorneys, David White could not be present and this serious matter required two lawyers. He explained to Maine that the next court term would be starting on Sept. 7 at 11:59 p.m. He asked Maine if he wished to waive his trial to the next court term and Maine answered yes.
His next court appearance will be on July 10 at 10 a.m.
