Pine Grove Plans For Celebration

By Staff | Jun 16, 2009

The town of Pine Grove is preparing for its annual Fourth of July celebration.

Organizer and councilman Dave Williams said Casey Powell, a singer who made it to the Hollywood round of American Idol, will be performing at the event to be held July 4 in Bill Earley Park by the Byrd Center.

There will be other musical entertainment as well as kids games and attractions, Bingo, a chainsaw wood carving show, a hot dog eating contest, a radio station remote, and possibly a flag burning ceremony by the American Legion. The festivities are set to start at about 11 a.m.

Anyone interested in being a vendor for the event is encouraged to call the city building at 889-3351.

Council voted to put Williams on the Fourth of July account so he can be one of the two people to sign checks for the event. Recorder Kimmy Bates said this would simplify the process, particularly on the day of the event when it can be difficult to get the needed people to sign checks when they are busy doing other things at the festival.
