Ueltschy Named VHS Valedictorian

Valedictorian Coleman Ueltschy

Principal Shawn Coen has announced the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Valley High School Class of 2009.

This year’s valedictorian is Coleman Ueltschy, son of Bobby and Rhonda Ueltschy of Pine Grove. His is the grandson of Bob and Bonnie Ueltschy of Porters Falls and Ed and Lorraine Martin of Reader.

Candace Cecil is the daughter of Matt and Missy Cecil of New Martinsville is the Salutatorian. She is the granddaughter of Gene and Barbara Lancaster and Friend and Doris Cecil of New Martinsville and the Great-Granddaughter of Howard and Brooksie Eggleston.

Coleman and Candace have both been enrolled in challenging academic classes including AP Calculus and College English.

Both students have consistently been listed on the Principal’s List and Honor Roll each grading period, possessing nearly perfect grades. They are both members of the National Honor Society.

Salutatorian Candace Cecil

Coleman has been actively involved in all aspects of school life the past four years. During his four years at Valley, he has been a member of the Student Council, has placed in County and Regional Math Field Days, participated on Quiz Bowl Teams, served as a school mentor, and was awarded top Pre-Calculus Student. He received all-conference academic awards and the America Youth Foundation “I Dare You” Award.

He has played football for four years, earning three varsity letters and served as captain his senior year. He played basketball all four years, earned three varsity letters and served as captain his senior year.

Coleman plans to attend West Virginia University, where he has been accepted into the Honors Program, and major in Exercise Physiology with a minor in Math. He has a goal of going into Sports Medicine. He is a recipient of the Promise Scholarship.

Candace Cecil is a member of the French Honor Society as well as the National Honor Society. She participated in Math Field Day for three years. She was awarded the Promise Scholarship and the R. Robert Dale Scholarship.

Candace plans to attend West Virginia Northern Community College where she will pursue a degree in accounting.
