Cosper Leads Paden City

Valedictorian Wes G. Cosper
Paden City High School has named Wes G. Cosper the valedictorian and Shauna Louise Durant the salutatorian of the graduating class of 2009.
Cosper is the son of Dave and Susie Cosper of Paden City and has a brother, David of Parkersburg. He is the grandson of Bill Gregory and the late Marion Gregory, Mary Virginia and Virgil Templeton, and the late Max Cosper.
Cosper is a member of the National Honor Society and is the treasurer of the Paden City Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta. He had a GPA of 4.03.
While helping at the Paden City Elementary School, he assisted with the COSI Science program and participated in the school’s Read-to-Me Day.
Cosper has been a participant in multiple quiz bowls, has been a regional finalist in the state Math Field Day competition, and has been recognized by the U.S Achievement Academy as a “Who’s Who in Science”. In addition, he has been awarded the Mid Ohio Valley Umpires Scholarship, the West Virginia University Presidential Scholarship, and the PPG Industries Foundation Scholarship.

Cosper has also been honored as a National Merit Award Finalist, a First Federal Bank Academic Hall of Fame member, and an All-OVAC Academic Team member.
Cosper has also been a four-year letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. He was recognized at the Co-Athlete of the Year at Paden City. He is a two-time First Team All State Football Recipient, as well as a multiple time First Team All Valley, All-OVAC, All-Mid Ohio valley, All Mason Dixon, and All River Valley selection.
He has also been awarded the West Virginia AP Player of the week award, the OVACsports.com Player of the Week award, and will participate in the BACF and OVAC All Star Games.
In baseball, Cosper has been a Second Team All-State selection as well as an All OVAC and All Valley recipient; he will also be participating in the OVAC All Star Baseball game.
Shauna Louise Durant is the daughter of Mark and Robyn Durant.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society. She is a charter member of Mu Alpha Theta and serves as the secretary.
During Shauna’s four years in high school she has dedicated herself to athletics, receiving two letters in volleyball and three letters in basketball and track.
In the fall, Shauna participated in the OVAC senior All-Star volleyball game while in the winter she played in the BACF senior All-Star basketball game.
This spring she competed at the state track meet and placed third in the four by one relay and fourth place in the four by two relay.
At this year’s sports banquet she was the recipient of the Paden City Female Athlete of the Year award.
Shauna has received the following scholarships: The Promise Scholarship, the West Virginia University Achievement Award, the Eagles Scholastic Award, and the Wildcat Boosters Scholarship.
She attends Mater Dolorsa Parish in Paden City and plans to attend West Virginia University where she plans to pursue a major in Biology.
