The Wait Is On

By Staff | Jun 3, 2009

Technology is a blessing and a curse. At the time of this writing the Wetzel Chronicle office is without power-along with much of New Martinsville. For many it means the loss of prime time television, for us it could be the missing of a deadline. So as we write this in the dark the old fashioned way, with pen and paper, a press sits in Wheeling waiting for our final pages.

At times we all get frustrated while waiting for technology-particularly with technology that cannot keep up with our impatience. We want to hurry it along. We let out sighs of exasperation as icons slowly move. This is the ultimate wait on technology-the one where progress cannot even be seen, at least not from inside our darkened office.

Oddly enough, the loss of control isn’t exactly frustrating. In fact, it might even be called refreshing or peaceful. There is nothing we can do except wait and write these words.

So if this wait goes beyond the time constraints of our presses, couriers, and U.S. Postal Service, don’t be too angry at the effects of God on this week’s Wetzel Chronicle. Try to do your best to exhibit the patience we all must have when the lights go out-as they seemingly must from time to time.
