An influential teacher can easily be the most life-changing force in a person’s life. They are right up there with parents on the influence scale.

I understand that Lee Ann Schambach was one of the best on both counts: teacher and parent. I didn’t know her personally, but I have heard enough to know she was incredibly special and her legacy will live through the lives of those she touched.

Lee Ann passed away last week at the age of 54 after fighting cancer. I am told that over 1,000 people visited the funeral home to pay their respects to a woman who obviously touched them.

Fellow teacher Mary Beth Bartsch had this to say, “Lee Ann was a gifted teacher. She was patient, organized, and always kind.” Those are the qualities I think most people strive to exhibit, but few achieve.

Lee Ann was also called the “Best Fairway Mom of the Ages” as she nurtured the golfing skills of both of her sons, Trent and Carson. They both received Division I golf scholarships.

Lee Ann may have left this world, but she has certainly left her mark. Of that I have no doubt.
