A Wake Up Call?
We are thankful that kind, caring neighbors were available to help Nora Hood in her time of need Sunday, and undoubtedly still today.
When she ran out of her burning house and yelled for help, they came running and did everything the could for her. We aren’t amazed that neighbors here would be so helpful, we’re amazed that they even heard her cries. In today’s society we are so insulated in our own homes that we often don’t even know our neighbors, much less hear their cries for help.
It’s not that we don’t care about each other, obviously society as a whole still has that compassion, but we just get so wrapped up in our worlds that we fail to see everything around us. We don’t hear the siren because we’re talking on the mobile phone. We don’t hear the birds chirping because we’re walking with an MP3 player. We don’t smell the roses because we’re in such a hurry.
Perhaps Sunday’s house fire and other horrific events our area has experienced recently will teach us to slow down, pay more attention to others around us, and take in life-rather than just drudge through it, oblivious to our surroundings.
