More Than Just A Paper
I was happy to see the press release come across my desk this week announcing that a West Virginia Domestic Violence Registry and Statewide Database has been created. This means that DV protective orders will be readily available to law enforcement officers, particularly when responding to calls.
While I don’t have statistics in front of me to prove my assertion, I can only believe that most violent crimes in this state take place in domestic situations. Not only are they dangerous to those involved, but to those responding to emergency calls. If they can approach the situation with some knowledge of its history and potential, that can only serve to help protect all those involved. I think this is a great step for our state courts to be taking.
