Bakers Celebrate 50th Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Baker of New Martinsville recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with friends and family at a luncheon reception hosted by their children and the Mollohan Center.
The Bakers wed on Oct. 11, 1958, at the 13th Street Church in Huntington, W.Va., with the Rev. Frank Canterbury officiating. Matron of honor was Loralee Riggs, sister of the bride, and bridesmaid was Gail Baker (Bills), cousin of the bride.
Best man was Herman Moore, brother-in-law of the groom, and groomsmen included Dallas Trimble, Wayne Napier Jr., and Dale Jackson, brother of the bride.
Mr. Baker is the son of the late Walter and Grace Harless Baker. He is a graduate of Wheeling Jesuit College, a certified public accountant, and an owner of Baker and Baker Financial Services Inc. in New Martinsville.
He also is retired from Bayer Corp.
He is currently serving his second term on the Wetzel County Board of Education.
Mrs. Baker, the former Roberta Jackson, is the daughter of Beaulah Jackson of South Point, Ohio, and the late Rev. Lucian G. Jackson. She is retired from the New Martinsville Public Library.
The Bakers have two children and two granddaughters. Their daughter, Tamela, is a magazine editor and resides in Hagerstown, Md. Their son, Christopher, is a financial planner and an owner of Baker and Baker Financial Services Inc. He resides with his wife Diana and daughters Abigail and Audrey in New Martinsville.
