The Hundred Hornets boys basketball team raced out to a 31-10 first half lead and never looked back in handing the Montcalm Generals a 71-58 set-back in heading to the HIT Championship Feb. 8 inside the Hornets Nest.

"We set out to make it into the OVAC play-off and the Home Town Invitational (H.I.T) championship when we started the season, and coach Kelch and I couldn't be any more happier for our boys and the school," said HHS Head Coach Virgil Wilkins.

The Hundred Hornets opened with a Logan Norris long bonus bomb to open the scoring, while teammate Cody Soles kicked in 4-straight baskets to get the party started.

Meanwhile Norris would kick in five more points, while Arron Stephens and Bobby Hostutler kicked in 3-points, including the final tally on a rebound put-back to give the hosts a nice 19-5 lead after eight minutes of play.

The Hornets were a little flat to start the second period offensively, but would soon get it going, while their defense was spot-on once more, holding the Generals to another 5-point quarter. The Hornets Adam Stephens recorded their first points of the quarter with a long triple around the 5-minute mark, while Eli Geho committed a robbery, stealing the ball and racing coast-to-coast for a deuce with 2-minutes remaining in the period to give Hundred a 27-10 lead. Norris finished off the period, with a pair of baskets that gave Hundred a 31-10 half-time lead.

Soles started to heat up in the third period, scored 12 of his game-high 29-points, while Montcalm ripped-off a trio a three-pointers to keep the Generals from getting run out of the gym heading into the final period, with Hundred still on top, 56-31.

Hundred kept feeding Soles in the fourth period, as he swished 11-points ending with a short fade away jumper that tickled the twine for his 1,000-career points midway into the final period with Hundred leading 67-39.

Coach Wilkins emptied his bench, and Montcalm took advantage scoring 17-points, while the Hornets bench supplied a pair of baskets by Jeffery Morris to end the game.

The Hornets was paced by Soles with a game-high 29-points and 12-rebounds for a double-double, while Norris tacked on 16-points, including a 3-ball. Hostutler collected 7-points and 8-rebounds, while Adam Stephens and William Lemasters each tallied 5-points. Morris tallied 4-points off the bench, while Aaron Stephens tallied 3-points and Geho a deuce and a pair of steals.

Montcalm was led by E. Nichols with 19-points, while N. White supplied a dozen for all the Generals double-digit scoring.

With the win, Hundred will move on to the HIT championship either Friday or Saturday depending if they make it the the OVAC Championship with a win over Madonna Tuesday evening. If they win Tuesday they will play for the HIT championship Friday, and will play for the OVAC-1A title Saturday.
